Pages 10 & 11 are lightly discolored because someone had left a newspaper clipping between these two pages. A touch of edge and corner wear. An inspection of the work finds no underlining, no highlighting, no owner names, no bookplates, no dogeared or folded pages, not ex-libris, no remainder marks. A very serviceable copy.

Shelf wear to the book, more to the jacket; which has one closed tear, is soiled, spotted, else clean and unmarked. First published stated, second printing by number line. Helen and Scott Nearing started a relationship in 1928 and married nearly 20 years later, on December 12, 1947. The couple lived in rural Vermont where they grew much of their food and erected nine stone buildings over the course of two decades. They earned money by producing maple syrup and sugar from the trees on their land and from Scott Nearing's occasional paid lectures. In 1952 the Nearings moved to a homestead in Maine near Cape Rosier where they continued growing much of their own food. They cultivated blueberries as a cash crop.
