Description:
Paris, Société d'Ëditions Géographiques, Maritimes et Coloniales, 1928. 8vo (23.8 x 15.6 cm). 328 pp.; 98 (groups of) text illustrations; 16 plates of which 12 in full colour; map. Contemporary red half calf over red marbled boards. Gilt title on the spine. Marbled endpapers. = A seminal, profusely illustrated work on New Caledonian nudibranchs by the French malacologist and entomologist Jean Risbec (1895-1964). The full colour illustrations by the author's father, Ernest Risbec (not in 2400 years of malacology), are beautiful and essential for understanding the richness and variability of tropical Indo-Pacific marine slugs. Most species were new. With an index to the species and an index of the contents. Contained in Faune des colonies Françaises, edited by [Jean] Abel Gruvel (1871-1940), being the complete second volume, with several other taxonomical (entomological) studies. Some rubbing to the boards, otherwise a very good, clean copy.
