London: Macmillan and Co, 1870. First Edition. Near Fine. First edition, first printing. Bound in publisher's original green pebbled cloth with covers ruled in blind and spine stamped in gilt. Near Fine with bumping to corners, light rubbing at extremities, light wear to spine ends and slight darkening to spine. Inner hinges slightly cracked and tender. Pages toned. A British naturalist, explorer, geographer, anthropologist, biologist and illustrator. Wallace is best known for independently conceiving the theory of evolution through natural selection; his paper on the subject was jointly published with some of Charles Darwin's writings in 1858.
