In a fine unclipped dust jacket. Signed by the author without a date or inscription on the fly title page. Mcphee visits with the engineers who must prevent the Mississippi from leaving its old established course; an Icelandic physicist who devised a means to prevent molten lava from taking over and filling-in Iceland's most important port; Hawaii to view similar attempts to control lava and in Los Angeles to meet with those responsible for trying to control the rapid disintegration of the mountainous terrain surrounding that area. 272 pages of text.
