About This Item

New York City, NY: Farrar Straus & Giroux, 2012. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. New York City, NY: Farrar Straus & Giroux, 2012. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 210 pages. The author's sixth novel. Now considered a contemporary classic. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Peter Cameron's "Coral Glynn". His literary homage to some of the great novelists he is indebted and feels closest to: Barbara Pym on the one hand, Denton Welch on the other. Their subject, themes, and concerns are his as well. "Cameron writes great novels the way they are intended to be, as the art of pure imagination. Never repeating himself, ever expanding into new territory, Cameron for the first time sets his story in England and in the past. Strange relationships, double personalities, and the word 'odd' echo throughout this disquieting novel that captures what it must have been like to live in a nation muddling through profound shock in the war's long aftermath. The book is about depression yet it perpetually glows with wry or laugh-aloud moments. With its vaguely dream-like aura and its accusation of murder, the book's mood is closest to that of Cameron's third novel, 'Andorra'. But Coral Glynn is even better. It takes bigger leaps, goes deeper, and to my mind, is more nerve-racking because the well-meaning characters make such terrible choices" (Stephen Bottum) . By now, it has become a banality to say of a writer like Peter Cameron that he is underrated and underappreciated, by readers, that is, who should know better because each of his books comes with genuine, sincerely felt praise from fellow writers, who do know better. An absolute "must-have" title for Peter Cameron collectors. This copy is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed in blue ink-pen on the title page by Peter Cameron. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a contemporary classic. This is one of few such signed copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws, are subsequent printings, or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. One of the most brilliant writers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER PETER CAMERON TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0374299013.
