New York: A. L. Burt Company, 1909. Early Reissue. Hardcover. Very Good. Early Reissue. Hardcover. About very good condition, spine darkened on the top edge of front board. No dust jacket. With four plates featuring line drawings by H.M. Brock. Original British title was "The Old Man in The Corner" and featured a unnamed armchair detective. He solves crimes while sitting a London the "A.B.C.Tea Room" with a female journalist. The tales first appeared in serialized form in "The Royal Magazine" in 1901, during the interval between the "death" of Sherlock Holmes and his reappearance in "The Hound of The Baskervilles" in 1902, a period when the public was hungry for detective stories. The last book in the series was published in 1925.
