About This Item
Michael Joseph Ltd, London - first edition 1971 Hardcover, 8¾" x 5¾", with dust jacket Previous owner's data to ffep. VERY GOOD book in VERY GOOD unclipped dust jacket Brown cloth-bound boards with gold type to spine, 1898 newspaer cutting as frontispiece, 30 b&w photographs, 2 bibliographies (34 pages), and index. Frederick William Rolfe, widely known as 'Baron Corvo', was mysteriously evasive about his own life, and frequently entangled fact and imagination. The author of this new study has sifted over the evidence, some previously unavailable, to reveal a portrait of Rolfe - dreaming of becoming Supreme Pontiff in the world, while struggling to avoid eviction - endlessly writing his letters and novels of self-glorification and self-justification.
