London: Chapman and Hall, 1846. First Edition. Cloth. Good/No Jacket. First edition. Original cloth with gilt decorations, as well as some ornamentation in blind. Xv, 618 pages. Illustrated. A history of costume and clothing in England, including the Romans in Britain, Anglo-Saxons and Danes, Normans, Plantagenets, Tudors, Stuarts and more. With detailed textual descriptions including quotes from contemporary sources. GOOD condition, ex-museum library. With the usual markings: bookplate, stamps and card pocket. Spine ends frayed, general fading to the covers, mostly along the extremities and spine. Minor scuffing and edgewear. Front hinge starting, rear hinge cracked. Faint dampstain in the fore edge margin of the first third of the book.
