Nobel prize-winning author André Gide's work has been described as a novel within a novel, with many characters and complicated cross-plots. First published in France as "Les Faux-Monnayeurs" in 1925. This Modern Library reprint edition translated from the French by Dorothy Bussy; author's "Journal from the Counterfeiters" translated, and with annotations, by Justin O'Brien. --- In Toledano spine 8 / grey cloth / gilt titling on black spine & cover blocks / black topstain / grey Kent endpapers / jacket style j, verso lists 415 titles in ML catalog. Likely published c.1963 (though 1955 date appears in book). ML #327.1. --- A split in the binding near front of book has been carefully repaired on this item, and with prior owner's signature and inkings to perhaps as many as 8 leaves, else a bright copy. Price-clipped dust jacket with very mild rubbing, otherwise complete and undamaged; wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; 12mo 7" - 7-1/2" tall; (10), 432, (6, ads) pages .
