About This Item

Boston: Estes & Lauriat, 1881. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 0x0x0. Front hinge starting, owner bookplates on front endpaper, pages lightly toned. 1881 Hard Cover. 230 pp. 8vo. A mystery novel, translated from the original French. Two-column format. Gaboriau was most well-known for his detective novels featuring Monsieur Lecoq, which may have been more popular were they not contemporary with the immensely popular Sherlock Holmes stories. Detective Lecoq is discussed by Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in A Study in Scarlet (not positively - Holmes called him a 'miserable bungler').
