About This Item
1876. HODGSON, Joseph. The Cradle of the Confederacy; or, the Times of Troup, Quitman and Yancy. A Sketch of Southwestern Political History from the Formation of the Federal Government to A. D. 1861. Mobile, AL: Printed at the Register Publishing Office, 1876. 1st ed. 8vo. [8], xiii-xv, [1], 528 pp. In later cloth. Contents lightly and evenly toned and a few leaves at with folded corners else near fine. Owen p. 982. Howes describes this as a "[p]olitical history of the deep South from the Southern view point" - Howes H-562. "Hodgson, a Montgomery attorney, vividly recalled the excitement of the 1860 election and Alabama's secession; much data on W. L. Yancey" - Nevins II, p. 224. Irregular pagination of the preliminaries comports with Howes; the book is complete.
