In his Introduction, Braithwaite writes of poetry and its appreciation; and of Wagner as one who has "very varied interest and sympathy" in his numerous poems herein. Many are brief; others are more encompassing, more of a story told. "The Settlement of Wollaston" (Massachusetts, in Quincy just south of Boston) recounts its beauty, character, and history on p.275-293. "Poems of Parenthood" number 13, closely followed by 12 consecutive poems begin "My Lady's...". "Lines inscribed to Mr. Forbes-Robertson" offers 31 sections. "War-inspired Poems" include 20. Themes of Christianity are frequent. And there is gentle humor.
