London: Cassell & Company Ltd., 1953. xii, 172, with numerous vignettes, publisher's black cloth, dj complete but partially worn through at the edges, toned, and faded at the spine. Anauthor presentation copy signed "Sincerely yours, James T. Bailey". Bailey, a descendant of a long line of woodworkers was himself a skilled carpenter and engraver who taught widely at craft schools in the UK. The books is a a compilation of references to the crafts in prose and verse "making a wonderful anthology of the loving handiwork of man since early times" from Ancient Egypt to the modern era. From the library of architect/designer, David Medd the book includes a 3 page typed list of quotes from the book and others sources made by Medd's wife, and a letter to Medd from a friend discussing government support, or the lack of it, for crafts. 2 additional newspaper cuttings have browned contiguous pages.. Author Presentation Copy. Hard Cover. Good/Fair. Illus. by A.E. Goodall. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
