London: Sceptre, 1996. Very Good. FIRST EDITION, WITH AUTHORIAL INSCRIPTION. Large 8vo. Green cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Map endpapers, green ribbon marker. Top half of spine flat, faint mark to heel, a few light spots to top edge, edges toned. Inscribed by Bragg on title page: "To Carl/ with best wishes/ Melvyn Bragg 4/96". Else, clean and tidy. In the original dust jacket, edged with medieval bling: edgewear and a little creasing, stain to reverse at heel of spine. Very good/ very good.
