About This Item

London; John Long, Limited, 1935., 1935. Hard Cover. FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp. 282, [2], 16 catalogue. 18 illustrations including photographic portrait frontispiece of the author. Publishers' black cloth with gilt titles to spine and double border in blind to upper board. A rather shaken copy with cover cloth creased and rubbed, minor wear at spine tips and corners and 1 cm split at upper front joint and spine tip. Endpapers and pastedowns very lightly toned; closed 1cm tear to p. 29/30 top edge, otherwise contents clean with no annotation or inscriptions. A good copy. Edward Thomas Woodhall (1886-1941) of the London Metropolitan Police Force & New Scotland Yard was the author of several works on criminology. This volume examines cases of psychic events and those "not of this World", including the assassination of Sir Curzon Whylie, the murder of Freda Lesser and Detroit's Dark Age Killer, as well as the Jack the Ripper case, to which Woodhall later devoted an entire volume entitled "Jack the Ripper or When London Walked in Terror". Scarce.
