The story of the Indian wars on the Great plains with the Plains Indians During the Winning of the West as told by a foremost writer on military affairs. The long war between the post Civil War army and the Sioux, Cheyenne, and other Plains Indians is given a thorough analysis of military tacdtics. General Marshall visited the sites of the principal battlefields of the twenty-five year long war and using geography and often-conflicdting battle reports a realistic account of what probably happened. Here are the battle stories of the Nez Perce and Chief Joseph, Custer's last stand, and the the battle of Wounded Knee all from a military point of view.
