About This Item

This book has been read, former library book some library stickers on covers, some stamps on inner pages. No other markings on inner pages. Spine intact, very minor crease. "Amelia Peabody inherited two things from her father: a considerable fortune and an unbendable will. The first allowed her to indulge in her life's passion. Without the second, the mummy's curse would have made corpses of them all." Good Reads "Elizabeth Peters is a pen name of Barbara Mertz. She also wrote as Barbara Michaels as well as her own name. Born and brought up in Illinois, she earned her Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Chicago. Mertz was named Grand Master at the inaugural Anthony Awards in 1986 and Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America at the Edgar Awards in 1998. She lived in a historic farmhouse in Frederick, western Maryland until her death." Good Reads

Synopsis

(Excavation season 1884-85) When strong-willed Amelia Peabody's studious father dies, Amelia decides to use her ample inheritance to travel. After rescuing a gentlewoman (Evelyn Barton-Forbes) in considerable distress, the two become friends and Amelia hires Evelyn to be her companion on the next leg of her trip, which takes them to Egypt. There Amelia encounters mysteries, missing mummies, and Radcliffe Emerson, an opinionated archaeologist who doesn't need a woman's help to solve the mystery--or so he thinks.

Reviews

On Dec 24 2020, a reader said:
One of the best novels I have ever read! Certainly, the funniest mystery romp and most entertaining romantic suspense ever. Peters style is magical with her highly developed and comical characters involved in complex antics down the Nile River and across the Egyptian desert. An excellent read that I could not put down. Rarely am I so engrossed by a book, that I stay up til 4 am still turning pages!

Welcome to Ohkwaho Books and Fine Art. We are a small family-run, independent book-seller looking to share our passion for the written word with the world. We specialize in historical fiction, non-fiction and children's fiction. Above all we value integrity and transparency and are looking for ways to connect with other bibliophiles.
