Original full leather bindings, bound by Brentano's, New York. Boards ruled in gold with gilt turn ins. Spines decorated in gold with raised bands. Remnants of leather spine labels. Volume One spine repaired, front board very fragile. Volume Two front board detached. Hardbound. Very good. Michael Scott, wrote a series of amusing and exotic stories for "Blackwood's Magazine" which were later collected as "Tom Cringle's Log" and "The Cruise of the Midge." Published anonymously, their authorship was not known till after Scott's death at Glasgow. Scott paints many interesting and alluring pictures of his sea travels. Sea fights, tropical scenery, Creoles, planters, flirtations, duels, and other pleasures or dangers of West Indian life.
