Bill English. 1948 Scribner's First Edition ( either a first or very early printing) of Paton's first & brilliant novel. The date is on both the title and copyright page as is the colophon with the number 1 but no "A" is present. It is in VG/VG- condition. The The HB has the brick red boards with deep blue lines and printing and shows virtually no wear at all. The DJ has the $3.00 price and shows wear and now repaired tears. **Brenbooks specializes in first edition books made into films.**

Synopsis

Cry, the Beloved Country is a novel by South African author Alan Paton. It was first published in New York in 1948 by Charles Scribner's Sons and in London by Jonathan Cape; noted American publisher Bennett Cerf remarked at that year's meeting of the American Booksellers Association that there had been "only three novels published since the first of the year that were worth reading ... Cry, The Beloved Country, The Ides of March, and The Naked and the Dead.
