Folio Society,, [1996]. 2 vols., 8vo., First Edition thus, with frontispieces, numerous engraved plates and maps in the text; pictorial cloth, gilt backs, red endpapers, a fine set in publisher's board slip-case lettered in gilt. Prebble's masterly accounts of the two great Highland tragedies were first published in 1961 and 1966 respectively. Here the texts are those of the original editions with slight emendations. The maps are redrawn by Denys Baker. A neasr fine set.
Synopsis
John Prebble was born in the UK in 1915 but spent his boyhood in a predominantly Scottish township in Canada. He became a journalist, turned novelist, film-maker, and historian, specializing in Scottish subject matter. His recent books include Mutiny and John Prebble’s Scotland . He died in January 2001.
