Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1953. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Fair. Illustrator: Photographic. Brief bibliography, list of illustrations. The text is illustrated with sepia toned photographs. Light blue coloured cloth covered boards black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. There is a small blue coloured illustration to the front panel  in a black coloured cameo. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with light blue and black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Quoting from the front fold over panel blurb " ... She was a great and graceful little ship, the Cutty Sark, 'the last of the Clippers' those famous, fast and beautiful ships which in the 19th century help to establish the supremacy of the British merchant fleet. Throughout her career she was one of the best-loved ships flying the Red Ensign, and hers is a glorious history. Here it is, told by a famous writer of sailing-ships and the sea, 1869 when she was built at Dumbarton for Captain John Willis, up to 1952, when The Cutty Sark Preservation Society took her over to preserve as a lasting tribute to the Merchant Navy." Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with bumping and rubbing of the top book corners and rubbing of the lower book edges. Fading of the back strip and to the top edge of the book. Offset tanning to the end pages with very light age toning of the pages. Between pages 48 and 49 the book has been over opened and the underlying stitching can be seen. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and back strip edges. Creasing to the top dustwrapper edge along with some tears, up to 2 inches and small pieces missing. The rear fold over crease shows the results of insect activity. Sunning of the back strip with rubs, marks and stains to the panels. A little foxing to the verso. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower edge of the front fold over panel. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 96 pages. Dust Jacket price-clipped. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
