Inclusive, Sub Titulis Ordine Alphabetico Collectis, Breviter Repraesentans. Pottendorff: Per Hieronymum Verdussen, 1668. [ii], 269, [1] pp. Interleaved. Woodcut consanguinity diagram to p. 75. Octavo (6-1/2" x 4-1/4"). Contemporary mottled calf, blind frames to boards, remnants of green silk ties to fore-edges, raised bands and blind fillets to spine, edges speckled red. Moderate rubbing, light gatoring and minor worming to boards, a few faint stains to rear board, rubbing and light wear to extremities, gatoring to spine, which is chipped at head, joints just starting at ends, corners bumped and worn, hinges cracked, minor worming to pastedowns and preliminaries, early (illegible) penciled annotations dated 1744 and 1746 to rear endleaf. Light toning to interior, occasional light foxing, faint (mostly very faint) dampstaining in a few places, title page, which has pencil annotations and an ink ownership signature, trimmed at foot affecting imprint and date. $1,500. * Only edition. Arranged alphabetically under subject headings with brief commentary, the Cynosura is an index to Hungarian statutory and customary law up until the year 1659. The first such compilation, it was published by Count Ferenc Nadasdy, who would be executed three years later after a failed coup against Emperor Leopold I. OCLC locates 7 copies, 2 in North America (Harvard, UC-Berkeley).
