Maps and illustrations, reference abbreviations, acknowledgements, four appendices and index. Dark cream-coloured endpages. The text is illustrated with four pages of maps and 16 black-and-white photographs between pages 148 and 149. Orange coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Orange coloured tint to the top text block edge. Photographic dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. "This study serves principally as a guide to the evaluation of Lawrence's works. Each novel is the subject of close analysis; all the short stories are considered; and poems, constituting 'a biography of an emotional and inner life', a survey with reference to important changes in the text, Lawrence's poetical development, and his attitudes to life and society." – from front fold over panel blurb. A little softening of the back strip edges with mopping of the book corners. Uniform tanning of the text block edges and a little age toning of the pages. A rubber stamp stating "Sample Only Not for Sale ... " has been placed to the lower edge of the free front end page. Rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels with fading of the back strip.
