About This Item

[Rio de Janeiro]: B'Nai B'Rith S/C, 1983. First edition. Softcover. g. Octavo. 60pp. Original pictorial wrappers. Remarkable work on the relations between the Emperor Pedro II of Brazil, and the Jewish community. The Brazilian Emperor exhibited tolerance towards the Jews (when asked why there were no laws against them in the country, he answered: "I will not attack the Jews, as the God of my religion came from their people"). This booklet is profusely illustrated with numerous b/w photographic reproductions. Lower front corner creased. Upper front corner bumped, thus slightly affecting pages throughout. Text in Portuguese. Wrappers in overall good, interior in good+ to very good condition.
