Octavo, 215pp, [v]. Brown hardcover, title in gilt on red cloth spine. "First Edition" stated on copyright page, with full number line. Solid text block, a near fine example. Previous ownership bookplate affixed to front endpaper. In the publisher's dust jacket, $10.95 retail price on front flap, a few short closed tears to top edge, faint shelf wear, a near fine example. Includes a TLS from Lt. Col. Clyde T. Sutton of Atlanta, Georgia presenting this signed first edition to the previous owner, Sally. Sutton writes: "... Even though Dr. King's writing hand has been crippled by arthritis, you can be sure the signature is authentic!" Signed by Martin Luther King, Sr. on the half-title. Martin Luther King Sr. (1899 - 1984) was the father of Martin Luther King, Jr., a Baptist minister and influential figure in the early civil rights movement. He served as the pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1931 until his retirement in 1975. Throughout his life, King Sr. advocated for desegregation and equal rights for African Americans, and he played a significant role in shaping his son's activism.
