About This Item
Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1978. Hardcover. Small 4to. Quarter black cloth with gilt lettering and red paper over boards. x, 297pp. Very good. Quite minor binding edgewear, else tight and internally fine; lacks dust jacket. Attractive first edition of this memoir of his time as U.S. Ambassador to the the U.N., bearing a fine bold presentation inscription in black fineline on front flyleaf: "For Adlai Stevenson / with the great / respect and / admiration of / his friend / Patrick / Christmas . 1978." Moynihan (1927-2003) served as the dapper Democratic senator from New York (1977-2001) alongside his friend and colleague, Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021), who served as Democratic senator from Illinois (1970-81). Stevenson's father Adlai II (1900-65), the Illinois governor and twice presidential candidate, also served as U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. (1961-65) and appears in this book quite a few times. A wonderful copy with fine associations.
