Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1931. First Edition. Octavo (19.5cm); green textured boards, with titles and designed stamped in gilt; yellow topstain; dustjacket; 439pp. Spine gilt slightly dulled, else very Near Fine. The unclipped dustjacket shows some light soiling and edgewear, with a few tiny tears; Near Fine. Grant's novel about upper-class New Englanders at the outset of the First World War. The novel is one of a series of books featuring the Chippendale's, which shows the moral decline of a Boston family over several generations. The author, incidentally, was a judge called out of retirement in order to review the Sacco and Vanzetti trial several weeks prior to their execution. HANNA 1474.
