Later, generously illustrated edition of Lever's 1859 novel, a somewhat sympathetic portrayal of a working class con man's ascent through British society. With 44 b/w illustrations by Phiz. Full leather with gilt decoration to spine. Marbled end-papers with matching marbling to page edges. Previous owner's clipping to ffep. Title label missing from spine. Some marking and scratching to leather, rubbing to edges. Occasional spotting within, otherwise clean and binding tight. Good.
