About This Item
New York: Grand Street Press;, 1992. First Edition. Wraps. Near Fine. Grand Street Vol. 11, No. 2 (Grand Street #42). 240 pp.; illus. 23cm. Softcover. Perfectbound glossy illustrated wraps. Literary magazine containing the first appearance in print of ANY portion of work-in-progress INFINITE JEST, i.e. material that would ultimately become a part of 1996 David Foster Wallace magnum opus "Infinite Jest" is published for the world to see. Presented as a story titled "Three Protusions" the excerpt runs for 13 pages and encompasses an early sequence in "Infinite Jest" where the character named Eredy is slowly becoming unraveled as he waits for delivery of his order of high grade marijuana from his drug dealer. It's a tour de force DFW set piece, happening almost entirely in Eredy's head, describing in excrutiating, microscopic detail the torment experienced by any and everyman desparate, unnerved, and falling apart as they wait for their drug dealer to show up with the goods. Book Condition: very light signs of handling, else fine. A sharp copy of an important DFW completist must-have. Additional contributors include: Gary Snyder, Jorie Graham, Sherrie Levine, Guy Tr, W. S. Merwin and numerous others.
