Inscription reads ' To Mary from William, 21st August 1924 and the Cheriton Otter Hunt Ball was last night' This was the night Henry proposed to his wife Ida Loetitia Hibbert. The recipient may haver been to Mary Hibbert Ida's cousin. inserted From a large collection of Henry Williamson's and his family's books. Includes a specially commissioned small bookplate affixed inside the book confirming this. First edition. 2500 copies printed. Contains two pieces of fiction, the first of novella length, the second a novelette. Both with supernatural undertones that are brought out more clearly in an appendix in which the author comments on the origin of the stories. The first story has a historical setting in the early days of the English monarchy. "An Old Thorn" is about a "wishing-tree," which has the power of rewarding its friends and punishing its enemies. Among the author's notes is a one-page ghost story. Book is very good and quite bright. Spine a little uneven. Contents good. The wrapper is good and quite bright. Edges rubbed/nicked. Loss to spine tips, spine edge and corner.Rear of wrapper with archival tape. Edges nicked in places. More images can be taken upon request. Ref17748
