About This Item

London: William Heinemann, 1938. First UK Edition, preceding all others. INSCRIBED by the author on the front endpaper: "To John Evelyn Moore / with my loving thanks / for once again working / so splendidly on a play of mine / Dodie Smith / New Year 1939."

Laid in is a flyer for a performance of the play at the Royal Adelph. Tipped-in photograph, ostensibly depicting a scene from the play, is loose from the binding.

Smith's sixth play, basis for the 1943 British film starring Margaret Lockwood and Michael Wilding.

Near Fine in a Very Good plus price-clipped dust jacket. Jacket is moderately rubbed, with light toning to the spine panel.
