Description:
New York: C. P. Huestis, 1840. Good. First edition presumed, n. d. (1840s); 7 1/2 x 4 1/2; pp. [1], 4-24; pictorial wraps with a hand-colored woodcut; illustrated with wood engravings; nicks and cuts to tips of spine and edges; scattered spots to margins; in good condition. An interesting intepretation of the classic Cock Robin tale, it was illustrated by English author and artist Alfred Henry Forrester (1804 - 1872), who often worked under the pseudonym Alfred Crowquil. The publisher, Charles P. Huestis was also an engraver and bookseller, who would be arrested in 1842 for distributing obscene publications in a scheme, where he was the middle man for trusted customers, who would come to his bookstore for certain questionable titles.
