Garden City: Doubleday & Company, 1971. First edition. The first volume in his Elizabethan Trilogy. Walter Sullivan's ownership signature on first blank and INSCRIBED BY GARRETT on title page, "For Walter Sullivan/ My thanks for much/ & best wishes to you -/ George," above which he's added his initials beneath his crossed out printed name. Walter Sullivan (1924-2006) was an author, critic, longtime Vanderbilt University professor, authority on Southern literature, and founding member of The Fellowship of Southern Writers, of which Garrett was a charter member. Very good or better with brown blocking on spine a bit rubbed but gilt lettering still strong; in very good dust jacket with tears at head of spine and lower front corner internally repaired with archival tape.
