Reviews

On Dec 24 2015, a reader said:
The attraction of Major General Fuller's "Decisive Battles" series is threefold.

- Fuller describes the battles (68 battles/sieges, in the three volumes) in sufficient detail to understand the key actions and their influence on the outcome. There is no extraneous detail.

- Fuller explains clearly _why_ the selected battle was decisive

- Most importantly, in the "Chronicle" which precedes each chapter, Fuller provides _context_ to enable the reader to understand the military/political background.

As an example, Gallipoli can be seen - in isolation - as being inept strategy, tactics and execution by the British. Fuller's Chronicle to the period preceding WW1 shows the Germans and French were equally inept in their planning and the organization of their armed forces.

The value of these three volumes lies primarily in Fuller's insight, shown in the "Chronicles". My only criticism is the relative lack of maps, (a problem common to many military history works). There are _just_ sufficient to follow the thread, but only just. Notwithstanding, these three volumes are well worth buying.
