New York: The Macmillan Company, 1920 WYSIWYG pricing--no added shipping charge for standard shipping within USA. Orange cloth, black titles on spine, xv, 317 pp. Top edge foxed, owner's name rubber-stamped on front paste-down and title page. DJ smudged with a 2" stain (offset from a spill on another book) on back panel, slight edge wear, corners of flaps clipped, original price present on spine; in Brodart archival cover. Original date of publication was November 1919, so this is not long afterwards. Henry Adams's brother Brooks Adams prepared the nearly-completed manuscript of Henry's pessimistic look at democracy for publication after Henry's death in 1918. To this he prefixed his own biographical sketch of his brother and the development of political thought in his family over the previous century, which extend over the first 122 pages. Shipping weight 2 lbs.. Early printing. . VG/G+. 20 X 14 cm.
