About This Item

Harcourt Brace, 1980. First Edition 2nd Printing. Soft cover. Very Good+/No Jacket Issued. Michael Hague the Great color illustrations. CONDITION: Mixed. Very Good+ 1980 Harcourt Brace large paperback, first edition (so it says), 2nd printing. Problems: tiny edge wear to cover corners with a tiny bit top spine. The interior is clean and tight. Beautiful, detailed color illustrations by the Great Michael Hague. CONTENT: More than anything the prince loved the sea. He spent hours at a time watching it rise and fall and crash against the rocks below the palace hill, and he longed to dive and swim in it as the sponge gatherers did. but he was a prince, and the sea was unfit for the royal heir. Once he slipped from the palace to the shore and met an old man who described to him the wonders and beauty that the sea hid below. The prince could not forget the old man's words. Later when he became king, he met Demetrius, a young sponge diver, and made a bargain with him. Demetrius won and, in a way, so did the king, though his reward was bittersweet. ( A king with a passion for the ocean requests a poor sponge diver to describe what lies beneath the sea.)
