About This Item
1974. IGLAUER, Edith. DENISON'S ICE ROAD. NY: E. P. Dutton & Company, 1975. 8vo., cloth & boards in dust jacket. First Edition, fourth printing. The story John Denison, who engineered a road over the frozen lakes and portages of Arctic Canada- a pionerring feat that many said could not be done. Iglauer was the only woman to accompany Denison and his construction crew while building the road. Sixty-below temperatures made brakes useless, caused steel axles to snap like icicles, and caused ungloved hands to freeze to metal. Signed by Denison in ink on the front endpaper. Hardcover copies of this title, signed by Denison, are scarce! Denison died in 2001 at age 84. If you have ever seen the television series "Ice Road Truckers" then you can appreciate the results of Denison's pioneering work. Very Good (bit of scattered foxing top edge with with small paper clip stain to rear endpaper; extremely tiny tear repaired with archival tape on rear blank page, else contents clean & tight); minor wear & soil (price-clipped) d/j. $250.00.
