About This Item
New York: Simon and Schuster, 1983. Uncorrected Proof. Trade paperback. Very good. A novel about a Las Vegas showgirl. In his memoir Literary Life, McMurtry said he wrote this novel "in twenty-two days" and that the book "seemed to flow out of me as rapidly as I could type. The Desert Rose was supposed to have been a screenplay, but, to my intense relief, it came out as a novel. I had hardly written a sentence I liked for eight years: to actually enjoy my own prose again was a big, big deal" (p. 91).
This is the proof, issued prior to the first edition, in printed yellow wrappers (paperback). "Fall 83" written in marker on the front cover; generally very good. Signed by McMurtry on the title page.
