About This Item

London: Henry G. Bohn, 1837. Third edition. Hardcover. Orig. quarter roan and green cloth with front cover inset -- leather label printed in gilt. Very good. Folio, 30 x 25 cm, 22 printed leaves and fifty-six full-page lithograph plates. First published 1830. ARCHER 291.3 "Altogether there are 25 designs, in four different styles that he felt were particularly `useful': Old English, Italian, Swiss and Rustic ........ Each design is illustrated in one or more the lithographed plates, which contain plans, elevations, and views." Robinson, inspired by Price, was the first practicing architect to call for preservation and restoration of vernacular structures for their picturesque value. ABBEY LIFE 64. Scattered, intermittent foxing, mostly in the margins. A firm, tight copy.
