Andre Deutsch, London, 1954. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Poor. 290 g.; VI, 7-240 pages, last two pages blank intentionally. Black coloured boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. Bumping to the backstrip edges and rubbing to the book edges. Browning and offset tanning to the end pages and light age toning to the internal text. Previous owner's name to the top edge of the free front end paper. A previous owner has placed the date, 20/1/89 and the number 972 to the top edge of the front paste-down, in lead pencil. Browning and foxing to the text block edges. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing the profile of a man holding a gun, the man is in pink colour the background is black. Green titles to the front panel and backstrip. A little rubbing to the dustwrapper corners and edges. Rubbing and creasing along with a few small tears to the backstrip edges. There is a 0.25 " tear to the top left-hand corner of the front dustwrapper panel, a 0.75 "split to the lower left-hand corner of the same panel and a horizontal tear measuring 2.25 "from the apex of the split. The major damage to the dustwrapper is a piece taken out of the front dustwrapper measuring 2.5 " x 3". Clipping of the dustwrapper, front fold over, lower right-hand corner. Handling marks, rubbing and foxing to the rear dustwrapper panel and browning and foxing to the verso of the dustwrapper. The story of an ordinary family kept prisoner in their own home by three escaped criminals. Size: 12mo (standard paperback).
