About This Item

London: Arrowsmith, 1892. Bristol: J. W. Arrowsmith, 1892. The Diary of a Nobody originally appeared in Punch. This is the first appearance in book form with the diary considerably added to. Published as Arrowsmith's 3/6 Series. Vol. XI. Original publisher's orange-brown smooth cloth, cover titled in blue and black, spine titled in gilt. A very good (or better copy) - some off-setting to the endpapers. No inscriptions. A little rubbed to the spine tips and corners. Some light loss to top corner. Printers errata on opened title page, leading to a piece of loss to the top. Rare.

Synopsis

The Diary of a Nobody, an English comic novel written by George Grossmith and his brother Weedon Grossmith with illustrations by Weedon, first appeared in the magazine Punch in 1888 – 89, and was printed in book form in 1892. It is considered a classic work of humour. The diary is that of Mr. Charles Pooter, a city clerk of lower middle-class status but significant social aspirations, living in Upper Holloway.
