Previous owner's discreet hand-stamp to front free endpaper; sunned on spine and very slightly rubbed. Very good condition. Afrikaans text. "Al ken hulle [Suid-Afrikaners] hul geskiedenis swak ... weet Bolanders én Transvalers, Natallers én Vrystaters, dat in die Kaap, in die Kolonie, in die Suide, dinge vroeër anders gedoen is as in die Noorde. Om te sê dat in die Suide, klasseverskille eerder as rasseverskille belangrik was, individuele prestasie en beskaafdheid belangriker as velkleur, dat daar minder aanvanklike en voorgenome segregasie was, meer geloof in gelyke regte en gemeenskaplike burgerskap vir almal wat aan sekere standaarde voldoen - is nog lank nie om alles van die Kaapse liberale tradisie te sê nie. Maar dit is wel 'n aanduiding van die area waarin hierdie beskouing sy brandpunt in die dertigerjare gevind het: die politieke regte vir nie-blankes." .
