Utrecht: Abraham Van Paddenburg En J. Van Schoonhoven, 1767. Corners rounded, edges worn, spine extremities frayed. Rear cover a quite worn and rubbed but intact. Spine with five bands, gilt title and designs. Internally very clean throughout with wide margins. Text is in Dutch and title can be translated as "Zoological Miscellany In Which The New Or Obscure Species of Animals Are Examined Carefully with Pictures...." Translated and comments by P. Boddaery, Med.D. The book consists of six parts printed from 1767-1770 with a total of 10 HAND-COLORED COPPERPLATES. Part VI is bound first with the other five parts following. Collated complete. Part VI printed in 1770 has 30 pages and one color plate of crested fowl; Part I, printed in 1767 has 32 pages and two color plates of "heart goats"; Part II, 1768, has 38 pages and three color plates of bats; Part III, 1769, with 35 pages has a large fold-out color plate of various worms; Part IV, 1769, with 32 pages has a color plate of sea creatures and worms; Part V, 1770, with 30 pages, and bound last has a single color plate of beetles. The plates are very well-preserved, quite crisp with fresh appeareance of the hand-coloring. We can find eight libraries world-wide who hold this book in their inventory. There have been no recorded auction sales of the book in the past 25 years according to ABPC. Peter Simon Pallas( 1741-1811) was a German naturalist and traveller. He spent a great deal of time in Eastern and Southern Russia and Siberia. He was well-known for his collection of natural history specimens, accounts of his travels, and contributions to the sciences of geology, botany, zoology. .
