About This Item

UK,8vo HB+protected dw/dj,ex-public library,1st edn.VG++/NFINE.An ex-public library book,so no owner inscrptn, and no price-clip to protected dw/dj.Front free endpaper has been torn out and removed. To the half-title page,a 'WITHDRAWN FROM PLYMOUTH LIBRARY SERVICES' red inked library stamp and to the reverse of same,an adhesive b/w library label pasted to it,and to rear pastedown is a rectangular white paper security(?) label,a green inked Plymouth Library Services stamp to top edges - these are the ONLY library notations/indications to the book.Protected in a clear protective sleeve, bright, crisp, clean, colour pictorial illustrated upper, front panel of dw/dj,with critics' reviews to rear panel,b/w lettering; with negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - no major nicks or tears present - though there is an apprx 1/2" closed tear with some light reciprocal creasing,to head of spine/backstrip of dw/dj.Dw/dj design/artwork repeated to bright, crisp, clean, glazed boards, both bottom corners possibly bumped or a production fault(?),top two corners also but minisculely bumped,a black+yellow striped headband, and near immaculate plain white endpapers, aforementioned missing ffe's removal excepted.Top+fore-edges lightly aged/toned - library stamp to top edge - contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners.Described honestly and fairly - even as an ex-library book, with the listed imperfections - it's still in an acceptable condition and state.
Among the coral outcrops of the island of Rota in the Marianas Islands, off the Philippines, lies the wreck of a Spanish galleon, the Santa Margarita. This is a reconstruction of her disastrous last voyage, beset by an extraordinary sequence of typhoons and storms,of the Santa Margarita on her way to Acapulco in the spring of 1601.Based on what little is known of the ship's journey - overloaded cargo,bad-blood amongst the crew and a curse - we are told a halting story of greed, horror, deprivation and unimaginable hardship in the north-west Pacific Ocean from the handful of survivors rescued from the wreck.
