When i started this book it was intended to be simply a study of a navigator, by a navigator. Christopher Columbus has been depicted as a braggart, liar and incompetent ass. I found him to be modest, truthful and a highly skilled navigator. Having made these findings, the question arose as to where he could have acquired his skills. Could he have been raised as an illiterate, apprenticed as a wood carder, and gained experience at sea as a passenger, as has been depicted? This led to a search for his true identity. The clues are there to be seen -- if one is not blinded by prejudice. Who was he? Presented here are pertinent facts which answer the questions plaguing historians...

Slicker, is one of about 450 qualified members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America, Inc., and its affiliate the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers. He was also the founding president of the the Florida Antiquarian Booksellers Association and is still an active member and committee chairman. In addition to keeping regular hours at the storefront location, Lighthouse Books participate as a vender in about a dozen book fairs, antiques shows, map fairs and related events each year. One such show is The Florida Antiquarian Book Fair, an annual trade show/charity benefit held in downtown St. Petersburg in the spring, that has become the oldest and largest antiquarian book fair in the Southeast; Slicker has served as Chair since its inception thirty years ago.
