About This Item
Leicester UK Philadelphia: Richardsonb & Company. Lea Brothers, 1889. Hardcover. VG for age. Black cloth with gilt sp. lettering, clean, slight sp. end rubbing, back joint lightly rubbed, routine sl. bumping and rubbing to outer corners, faint lib. number label ghosts to b0ttom sp. and top fr. by spine of little consequence, sm. dent to fr. back edge, not as bad as all this sounds. xi + 347, 5 figs on 3 plates between pp.526/527, 62 numbered text figs.; early oval purple lib. stamps oy British Medical Association Library to half-title, t.p. and occ. top margins elsewhere (spotted 3), top t.p. inscribed 'With Authors Compliments', presumably he donated it to the library, a small 'Withdrawn from Stock' stamp oddly upside down on rear end-paper,another very small stamp '150 E' top fr. pastedown, end-papers (but not paste-downs) a little tanned. Library Hub gives 13 copies of 355 pp. 1877 first ed. but none of this, and no 19th century entry for a Vol.2. Wikipedia gives 1886 as date for this work . so clearly some bibliographic confusion. Tait died in 1899 aged 55, he was extremely eminent during his hey-day, an antivivisectionist, first to successfully operate on ectopic pregnancy and much else. 16 cm x 24.5 cm
