No dust jacket. Cartography by Bernhard H. Wagner. The purpose of the author is to give the general reader an approach to this period in American history that is neither so detailed as to appeal only to scholars of the period nor so limited as to be little more than an outline. Bound in red and black tweed cloth with silver titles on spine; clean with discoloration area on front and along spine edge--it is lighter red; quarter inch tear to cloth at spine head; corner tips lightly rubbed; tight and solid sewn binding. Pages very clean, no text markings, no creasing. Top of page block has pale stain near spine that extends onto rear endpapers, but not on to text pages. 543 pages with Bibliography and Index. 6.4 x 9.25 inches.
