There are 34 coloured plates, taken from all ages of artists work, and numerous black and white line illustrations and sketches within the text. Grey coloured boards with a facsimile of Dobell's signature, in white on front panel and white coloured titles to the backstrip. Photographic dustwrapper, a colour photograph of William Dobell, with white coloured background with blue and black coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. Before his sudden death William Dobell agreed to tape record a series of conversations with the author of this book. It is in fact a study of a artist 'at work', "discussing how is, how he works, what he is trying to achieve in his work; analysing his paintings and the attitudes of people to them.". – from the front fold over panel blurb. Corners slightly rubbed and there are some bumping along the bottom edges of book along with shelf wear. There has been discolouration of the boards of the extreme edges of the top and the bottom of the book. Dust marks to top paper edge and a few foxing spots. Previous owners name on the title page.
