About This Item

Mountpleasant [Ohio]: printed and published by the author, 1825. First edition, 8vo, pp. v, [3], 320; page edges stained yellow; full contemporary calf rubbed and worn, but sound; text foxed. Bates proposed a general history of the Society of Friends, and its doctrine, together with biographical notices of its members, but he apologizes in his preface for discussing only the Quaker doctrine. It went through many editions, and was still in print in England as late as 1896. Not in Sabin. NUC locates 2 copies only.
