LIMITED EDITION 1953, 485 COPIES ONLY, this copy numbered 182. 4to, approximately 285 x 220 mm, 11¼ x 8¾ inches, 11 plates in colour, 11 black and white plates, 35 drawings in the text, pages: xvi, 1-250 including index, bound in original publisher's blue buckram, small gilt vignette of Dodo to upper cover, gilt lettering and decoration to spine, top edge gilt, in dustwrapper. Tiny shallow crease to upper cover of book and dustwrapper next to spine, (see attached image), small faint crease affecting all pages at top inner corner, price cut out of front flap, otherwise a very good plus copy. The author deals with the different species of Dodo and Solitaire, reviewing the historical and pictorial evidences, detailing the remains of specimens, recounting the story of extermination, and describing in detail the appearance and habits of these amazing birds. Some 36 other species of extinct bird are also described including the Great Water Hen, The Almost Flightless Heron and Leguat's Starling.
